Privacy Policy
The short version: Linebreakers collects no personal information. To know whether you own the full game, it checks with a purchase service. If you play online, it sends a made-up callsign, your army and your moves so the match can reach the other player. It also keeps anonymous counts of which parts of the game get played. None of it says who you are.
The game
- There is no account and nothing to sign in to.
- The game contains no advertising and no third-party analytics or tracking software. Playing the story or a battle against the computer sends nothing but the purchase check and the anonymous counts described below.
- Your progress and settings are saved only on your device. Deleting the app deletes them. They may be included in your device's own backups, which are managed by Apple or Google under your device's backup settings.
- The game does not ask for access to your contacts, photos, camera, microphone or location.
The full game
The full game is a single purchase made through the App Store on iPhone or Google Play on Android. We never see your name, your email or how you paid. To know whether a device owns the full game, and to bring a purchase back with Restore Purchase, the game uses RevenueCat, a service that keeps track of store purchases. When the game starts, and when you buy or restore, it sends RevenueCat:
- A random ID that RevenueCat makes on your device and, on iPhone, the identifier Apple gives your device for our apps. Neither is your Apple or Google account or an advertising identifier, and neither can follow you into another company's apps. The game gives RevenueCat no name or ID of its own for you.
- The purchase record that the store supplies: which product, when, the transaction number and the store country.
- Technical details: the app version, your device model and system version, and your language settings.
RevenueCat processes your IP address in order to answer and handles this information on our behalf under its privacy policy. If you never buy the full game there is no purchase record to send.
Online play
Playing online is your choice. A match is passed between the two players by a small relay that we run on Amazon Web Services. While you play online, the game sends it:
- A callsign: two words and a number that the game makes up, such as Silver Herald 22. You cannot type one, and you can swap it for another whenever you like.
- Your army: the commander and the two guards or giants you chose.
- Your moves, which the relay passes to the other player and does not keep.
The other player sees your callsign and your army. The relay deletes them when the match ends or a player leaves, and anything left over is set to expire six hours after the room was made. There is no player ID, no account and no record of who played whom. As with any connection, AWS processes your IP address in order to carry it. The relay does not record it.
Anonymous play counts
So that we can see which parts of the game get played and where players get stuck, the game counts a few things as they happen: for example that a stop in the story was begun, won or lost, which commander was chosen for a battle, or that the unlock screen was shown. From time to time it sends those counts to our servers, which add them to a total for the day.
A count carries no player ID, no device identifier and no time, and we do not keep the address it came from. The totals cannot be traced back to you or to any one player. They are kept for about a year.
Apple and Google
Downloads and payments are handled by Apple on iPhone and by Google on Android, each under its own privacy policy. If you have chosen to share analytics or diagnostics with app developers in your device settings, the store may show us aggregated crash and usage statistics. We cannot identify you from them.
This website
- This site sets no cookies, runs no scripts and loads nothing from third parties. Its typefaces and pictures come from the site itself.
- It is hosted on Amazon Web Services. Like any web host, AWS processes technical details such as your IP address and browser type in order to deliver the pages. We do not use that information to identify you.
If you contact us
If you email support, we receive your email address and whatever you choose to include. We use it only to reply, and we will delete it if you ask. Support mail is received through Amazon Web Services and passed on to our mailbox. The copy held by the mail system is deleted automatically after 30 days.
Deleting your data
Deleting the app deletes everything the game keeps on your device. The purchase itself stays with your Apple or Google account, which is what lets you restore it later. We hold nothing with your name on it. If you want the purchase record held by RevenueCat removed, email support and we will work out with you which record is yours.
Children
Linebreakers is a game of fantasy battles. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone, including children under 13.
Changes
If the game changes in a way that affects this policy, we will update this page and its date before that version is released.
